Abbreviated Adult

Abbreviated Adult Course

Starting July 1, 2017, adults age 18 and older who previously have never held a valid driver license and who fail their first attempt at the maneuverability test and/or road test are required to take an Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course.  The course will consist of one of the following options;

  • 4 hours of classroom & 4 hours with a licensed instructor; or
  • 4 hours of online & 4 hours with a licensed instructor; or
  • 4 hours of classroom & 24 hours of driving with any licensed driver age 21 years and older; or
  • 4 hours of online & 24 hours of driving with any licensed driver age 21 years and older.

The State of Ohio prohibits more than 6 hours of combined classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training in one day.

Applicants who opt to complete the 24 hours of driving with any licensed driver age 21 and older cannot complete more than 4 hours of driving in one day.

Requirements

In order for an Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course applicant to schedule driving hours, the applicant must first;
  1. Submit to The Driving School a signed and dated Training Agreement (available at the classroom location);
  2. Pay in full for the course;
  3. Attend a minimum of 2 hours of classroom instruction; or
  4. Completion of online instruction.
For applicants who choose to complete the 4 hours of instruction online and complete 4 hours of driving with a licensed instructor, those applicants must also submit to The Driving School the original Certificate of Completion from the online provider.  Copied, scanned, faxed and emailed versions of these documents cannot be accepted.

For applicants who choose to complete the 4 hours of classroom instruction, please contact The Driving School via email with any questions you may have and/or in order to register for class.  A request for registration must be made no later than Noon (12 p.m.) on the Friday before class is scheduled to begin.

We offer home pick up and drop off service for customers residing within the area of our normal business operations.  Contact us for specific details.
